About Greytown
Greytown is proud of its history as the first planned inland town in New Zealand. Its founding was supported by Governor George Grey, hence its name.

Greytown has a vibrant village atmosphere with a strong local heritage society to protect the colonial character of the heart of the town. There is a happy mix of long established businesses with new boutique shops and award winning cafes. There is also a well managed camping site, motels, hotel/pubs and many Bed and Breakfast establishments.

The primary and secondary schools have excellent reputations. Numerous social and charitable groups serve the needs of all age groups. There is a marked emphasis on the arts both visual and performing.

Visitors are well catered for and find the town friendly and welcoming.
